Questions and answers: Leaving the Dormitory

I want to check-out from the dormitory. What are my possibilities?

By October 5th, 2020, you shall sign the Amendment to the Accommodation Contract, which will allow you to keep your stuff that you do not need urgently inside the room (take into the account that the dormitory may be closed for several months). Please note that you will not be able to use the accommodation services of the dormitory until further notice. You do not need to pay the rent for November and December. As soon as the dormitory re-opens, you can return to reside in your room, we will inform you regarding this possibility in advance.
You may terminate the Accommodation Contract by agreement, e.g. you will check-out from the dormitory completely and therefore you shall not use the services of the dormitory for the academic year 2020/21 anymore. As soon as the dormitory re-opens and it will be possible to use our services again, you can sign up into the waiting list and in case of vacancies, wait for the allocation of a room.
You will leave the dormitory without signing the Amendment or termination of the Contract. In this case, you are still registered as regularly accommodated resident and therefore the terms and conditions of the Accommodation Contract still apply to you - you shall pay the full price for the rent.

How can i sign the amendment to the accommodation contract?

In person at the Accommodation Department (VBB).
From September, 29th to October, 5th 2020, our Accommodation Department will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. including the weekend.
Authorized person – an authorized person can also sign the Amendment to the Contract at the accommodation department and take your stuff from the room. We only accept officially certified powers of attorney signed by a notary.
Electronically, if I am a student of the Comenius University and there is no opportunity for me to sign the Amendment to the Contract in person at the Accommodation department. All you have to do is download a sample of the Amendment to the Contract, fill in the identification data, sign it and send a scan of the document by e-mail to mlyny.ubytovanieuniba.sk.

If you have perishable meals and items in your room (food, flowers, etc.), ask your roommates to get rid of them. If this is not possible, please let us know.

I hereby agree to the conclusion of the attached Amendment to my contract on accommodation with the accommodation facility, in accordance with § 40 par. 3 of Act no. 40/1964 Coll. Civil Code as amended.
I am aware that my accommodation passcard will be temporarily disabled and I will not be allowed to enter the accommodation premises of VM Ľ. Štúra - Mlyny UK (including my room).

What are the current office hours of the Accommodation Department?

Can I sign the amendment to the accommodation contract even after the 5th of october?

At the moment, we are focusing on reducing the number of residents at the dormitory as much as possible. The list of students who must complete full-time teaching (laboratories or internships) after the 5th of October will be provided to us by the deans of the faculties. We will prepare an alternative for these students that will take this fact into account. Others have the opportunity to sign the Amendment until the 5th of October, 2020 (including ).

I WANT TO CHECK-OUT COMPLETELY AND NOT TO USE SERVICES OF THE DORMITORY DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/21.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT PREMATURELY?

Yes, it is possible. You can now terminate the Accommodation Contract by agreement, there is no need to look for a substitution. If you terminate the contract by October 5, we will refund the October fee within 30 days. As soon as the dormitory re-opens and it will be possible to use our services again, you can sign up into the waiting list and in case of vacancies, the dormitory will contact you with an offer-

What happens if I continue to reside at the dormitory?

We cannot predict this at the moment. Depending on the epidemiological situation, we will have to follow the instructions of the regional hygienist or other public authorities. We can count either with the closing of the dormitory based on the order of the government (as suggested by the Prime Minister at the press conference) or with quarantine (when no one would be allowed to enter or exit). We do not know any further details on the different scenarios, because these decisions will no longer depend on us. Now it is the time to check-out calmly and in a relatively comfortable mode; however, further decisions in case of an escalation of the situation may be made by the state authorities authoritatively and in a greater time emergency.

We promise to do everything we can to take care of students who really have nowhere to go or are in a difficult life situation - after October 5, however, decision-making will not be entirely in our hands.

If I stay at the dormitory and one month from now it will be closed, what will happen with my room? may I keep my room and return afterwards?

It all depends on who issues the order to close the dormitories, under what conditions, and what the state authorities will order us to do.

I would like to check-in. Is that possible?

If you have a valid accommodation reservation, you can still check-in. Please note, that you have the opportunity to sign an Amendment to the Contract right away upon check-in and thus secure the room for a period when the situation improves. However, we recommend that you do not stay at the dormitory at all.

I would like to change my room. Is that possible?

Room changes are prohibited until October, 5th 2020. We will assess the possibilities of changing the rooms after October 5th, 2020.

Does this also apply to both PhD. Students and the employees?

Employees and PhD students can stay at the dormitor at this time. The situation may, of course, change over time.

What about the international students?

If you have the opportunity to return home safely and continue your studies online, please do so. The same options apply to you as to the slovak students. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee what the situation and conditions will be at the dormitory if it will be closed by the public authorities. If returning home is not safe or possible for you, we will try to find a way to help you.
